This Week's Adopt a Pet

This cutie is Betsey and she's a Domestic Short Hair,Torbie Mix

Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
ID: A023060

Notes: Betsey is a very active, energetic, playful, one year old cat. She is VERY interested in playing with toys. She will need lots of interactive playtime each day with her new adopter, to help burn off her playful energy. Dangling string-type toys are often favorites for chase-and-pounce games. She may be protective of her very favorite toys and try to keep them away from you. This is why string-type toys that a human can control are best for her. Betsey is a little hand-shy with people. We believe this is because she didn't receive quite enough handling by people as a very young kitten. Sometimes she loves to be petted by hands. Other times she seems to think hands are toys, and other times she seems a little afraid to be touched by hands. She needs a patient, experienced cat adopter to help her learn that hands are for gentle petting. Betsey should go to a home with ages 13 and up.

Syracuse

I got to watch a really good game between to heavy rivals in the Big East-Syracuse and Georgetown. Now, I'm sure that my fellow schoolmates back in middle school and high school can remember how crazed I was about Syracuse and how much I hated (still do) Georgetown. Georgetown was ranked 10 in the NCAA standings as they went into the Carrier Dome of Syracuse University where Syracuse spanked them and shattered their 11 game winning streak. It was one of the better games that I've watched in a long time. The added bonus was that Syracuse won and it probably helped them get into the NCAA Championship brackets.

The Police

Now that I have one of my favorite songs in my head.....
Scott and I are seeing The Police in concert, live, in person. Woo Hoo! I didn't think that getting decent tickets would be possible, especially for the price that they're going for...but I managed to get 2 tickets, one row in front of the other, in the lower tier section of Giants Stadium. The bad thing....it's on a Sunday night....the good thing.....I'm seeing The Police! I had seen Sting a couple of years ago when he was touring with Annie Lennox so I'm stoked that I get to see the band that he started with. Not as good as seeing Live on my birthday last year but still a good concert!

Attention Lucy (aka Momma of Eros)

There are no pictures because 1: the camera doesn't have batteries and 2: Scott still hasn't shown me to upload pictures on his computer. I promise to get pictures of my craft work soon.

Yet another move

I just packed up my office for the 5th time in 5.5 years. This is getting crazy! It seems like my office moving has followed the path of my home moving (7 in 8.5 years). At some point, this needs to end!!!!

2 of 25

I'm on a roll. I finished the cross-stitch bookmark that I made for an exchange on a Yahoo group that I'm on. I really liked working on this. I'll probably make myself one in the future.

1 out of 25

I managed to finish the anklet that I started tonight. So that's 1 project out of the 25 challenge completed!

Like I didn't have enough projects...

I decided to be a little selfish and make an anklet for myself. I could easily get this done either tonight or tomorrow. Once it's done, hopefully, I'll be able to show a picture of it.

dr. follow-up

For those of who who care...doctor said that it could be dehydration, low blood pressure, and stress/tension headache. She gave me a prescription for muscle relaxers and suggested that I drink more water than what I already drink...I'm just going to float away!

This Week's Adopt a Pet

This cutie is Bud and he's a Shepherd,Pit Bull Terrier Mix

Size: Large
Age: Young
Gender: Male
ID: A022929

Notes: Bud is a wonderful and friendly dog who was adopted out as a puppy and returned a few months later because of landlord problems. The former owner was devasted and reported that Bud is a terrific dog and would make a wonderful addition to a new family.

Slowly managing

Another day, another headache-this time pain shooting in the left part of my head when I woke up this morning. No work. I did manage to do some more of the latch hook for my brother's birthday. I'm probably still not going to manage to get it done in time, but I'm going to keep trying. I think that I'm going to attempt to do some cross-stitch work in a few minutes.

Compliments

Reassurances from something that happened weeks ago? Genuine appreciation for the work that I do? Having something up their sleeve? I'll take them no matter what an underlying cause could be....so thank you.

Crafty

I had the pleasure of having some extra time this morning and went to Michael's. Luckily for me, my tax refund had also come in. I managed to behave...slightly. I picked up some fabric, blank bookmarks, some variation DMC floss, and a cross-stitch kit of some Chinese art-something that Scott had mentioned that he would like for when we ever get a house. So with this extra stash....I'm going to throw myself into the 10-25-50 Challenge. This is where you pick how many projects you will finish before you buy more stuff. I'm going back and forth between 10 and 25 but I think that since I know that I'm going to be doing 100 friendship bracelets for charity, I'm going to go for the 25. Let's see how well I do. I figure that I have everything I need to do the gifts that I want to get done this year so off I go! I need to work on my brother's latch hook so I'm going to go ahead and work on it. Have a great evening.

What to do....

Well...my headache has done nothing but stay the same or get worse throughout the day. I left work early and took a nap....still no better. At least my stomach is okay unlike it was when I left work. I did make a doctor appointment for this Friday so hopefully, I'll be able to make it through the next couple of days.

Anybody...please

Does anyone know of how to get rid of headaches?
As you can guess, I still have this headache...the same one that I've had since Thursday. I'm considering on finally going to the doctor today...we'll see.

Last Week's Adopt a Pet

Thanks to me being sick.....Here's Bessie and she's a Domestic Short Hair

Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
ID: A020662

Notes: Bessie is a gorgeous black and white cat. She is a very sweet girl, who takes a while to get to know. She is a cat's cat, an independent lady who takes a little bit of time to get to know, but once you win the heart of Bessie she is yours for life. Bessie is nervous about being picked up, but let her sniff your hand and then she will come to you asking for affection. And she really, really likes being pet and stroked, but she just needs to get comfortable with you first! She can get overstimulated occasionally when she has had too much attention and take a swat, but give her a little time out and she will soon be ready for more. Note: Bessie has been diagnosed with IBD and is on medication and a special diet and is doing well. Her medicine is slowly being tapered down by Vet staff but it is likely she will need to be on some level for the rest of her life. Bessie has been waiting quite awhile for her forever home, but she knows there is an experienced cat adopter out there who appreciates the qualities of an independent and spirited cat. She asks that you please come by soon and take her home though!

Well enough

I'm feeling well enough to work on some cross-stitching and make some bread. I'm working on the bookmark that I'm on an exchange group with (a Yahoo group). Decided to also surprise Scott with some fresh potato bread. Love my bread machine!

Still feeling yucky

I ended up leaving work early yesterday and I've decided not to go anywhere today. We'll see if I end up going to Weight Watchers tomorrow. If this is the flu, it's something like I've never experienced before-I'm mostly fatigued with a headache, none of the usual aches that come with the flu. Maybe I'm just turning into a cat with all the sleep my body wants!

Home sick

Having shooting pains throughout my head did not feel great and slowly made the rest of my body feel like crap so I didn't head into work. After Scott went to work, I went back to sleep and didn't wake up until around 11:30-something that I haven't done since I was little. While watching TV, I feel asleep again. Not sure what's going on with my body as I'm still not feeling well but I need to get to work tomorrow.

Happy Valentine's Day

Hope that everyone has a special someone (animals included) to share today with. So far my day's been pretty okay despite the lack of hot water this morning. Last night when I got home from seeing The Color Purple, I found little Rufus sitting on my pillow. I had alerted Scott to the strange new animal sitting on my pillow. He explained that Rufus wouldn't let him go without taking him so he thought he would surprise me with Rufus (a stuffed puppy). I introduced Rufus to Thetford (our adoptive son from VT). This morning, there was Brownie waiting for me on the computer. Scott let me know that Rufus and Brownie are best friends and that he couldn't take one without the other. So now I have two additional little ones. Rufus is kinda of a cocker spaniel, hound mix. Brownie's a chocolate lab. Very cute. Thank you Scott.

Harry Potter Character?

You scored as Sirius Black. You are the most loyal friend anyone could ask for because you'd go to any length to ensure their safety and happiness. You're free-spirited and very difficult to confine to a caged life. You love being in the company of those you love and love to show them how much they mean to you. You loathe those who only live for self-gain and show disloyalty. You're a great person but sometimes its needed of you to think more rationally than being quick to jump into things.

Treating myself

With all the craziness of work...I decided to treat myself to The Color Purple on Broadway. I'm going tonight after dinner with Scott. Hope that it's as good as I'm expecting it to be.

Last Week's Adopt a Pet

Had a busy week last week so....
This pretty girl is Geniene and she's a Labrador Retriever,Shepherd Mix

Size: Large
Age: Young
Gender: Female
ID: A022817

Notes: CHARM SCHOOL TALENT SHOW WINNER!!!! Geniene was named "Most Improved" at the ASPCA's recent Charm School Talent Show for Dogs! Brought to the ASPCA months ago as a shy and withdrawn dog, Geniene has blossomed into a tail-wagging, kiss-giving, mush of a dog. All thanks to the tireless work of the ASPCA's hospital staff, behavior department and wonderful volunteers, like Dina, the handler who guided Geniene through Charm School and helped her come out of her shell. Geniene is now ready to settle into a life of rest and relaxation in her forever home.

A Morning Full of Dreams

And none of them were good.
1st-I witnessed a horrible scene of a dog being hit by a folded metal chair and I couldn't get through to the ASPCA to report it...and neither could anyone else that witnessed this.
2nd-I had gone down to visit my family...who just had a death in the family...ended up not exactly lost but while trying to get to my cousin, was basically kidnapped and forced to be others...almost raped...just a miserable experience overall.

Another weekend

After a very busy Friday, it was nice to hang out with Scott and Kim last night. Had some decent Mexican food with good margaritas. Then it was off to Times Square where I only yelled at 2 tourists-a record for me.
Today it's the grocery shopping and then we're going to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens for a Lunar New Year Celebration and someone that Scott works with is performing.
Tomorrow it's back to Weight Watchers and maybe some gaming. If not, it will be craft time for me.
Hope everyone has a blast this weekend and behaves themselves.

Screwed up Ferry ride

So how many times should it take a captain to pull in the ferry in Manhattan? On average, 1. For some damn reason, this afternoon it took the captain 3 times to pull the damn ferry in. If it wasn't so damn cold out, I wouldn't have cared but with a wind chill of around 1 degree on land...I could only imagine how cold it was on the water. Just a pain in the ass trip!

A Quiet Night

Scott's off wargaming at Matt's so it's just me and the royal family. Been working on the huge latch hook for my brother's birthday-I just hope that I get it done in time. Suzie doesn't help when she attempts to climb on my project because she's a lap kitty. That's what I get for spoiling her with love so much.
Hope everyone else has a nice evening. Good thing Lost is back on tonight. Of course, with me being such an early bird, I won't be watching. And then tomorrow, it's the return of Survivor. Can't wait!

FYI

For all of us who are freezing cold...the high in Honolulu, Hawaii is supposed to be around 80 today. Anyone want to take a trip?

A Day Without Too Much Travel?

I do have to stop in at one office and pick up whatever work is there for me to do and then bring it to the other office. At least I'm not on a ferry today. It's going to be a long day however. Scott and I are going out to dinner with a friend of ours and then getting home who knows when. Makes me wonder why I get up at 4am sometimes. Oh yeah, that's right...weight loss.

Monday, February 05, 2007

Way too cold

I'm not going to enjoy today at all. If I only had to stay in one place, it would be fine, but since I have meeting and need to take the Ferry....Luckily the Ferry will be heated but when it goes into dock, people start opening the doors and the freezing cold settles in. So despite me dressed in several layers, I know that I'm still going to be freezing. Time for some major fantasy trips to Hawaii and other warm spots.

Super Bowl Sunday

Well, it's a rainy day down in Miami and so far, Indy is screwing up all over the place. Makes me happy.
Managed to get some more work done on the bookmark that I'm making for someone that I'm in an exchange group with. I had to frogg out part of it which made me unhappy, as I was done with the section and had to take it all out. Oh well. The tragedies of cross-stitching.

Saturday, February 03, 2007

Another weekend

And it should be pretty laid back-which I need after yesterday's horrible day. Scott and I are going shopping today and I'll hopefully be getting a new set of glasses. Tomorrow, since it's going to be frigid, it's a day at home. Maybe some games will be played, some movies watched.

Has this ever happened to you?

Even though I'm not originally from NYC.....

You Know You're From New York City When

You say "the city" and expect everyone to know that this means Manhattan.
You have never been to the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building.
You can get into a four-hour argument about how to get from Columbus Circle to Battery Park at 3:30 on the Friday before a long weekend, but can't find Wisconsin on a map.
Hookers and the homeless are invisible.
The subway makes sense.
You believe that being able to swear at people in their own language makes you multi-lingual.
You've considered stabbing someone just for saying "The Big Apple".
The most frequently used part of your car is the horn.
You call an 8' x 10' plot of patchy grass a yard.
You consider Westchester "upstate".
You think Central Park is "nature."
You see nothing odd about the speed of an auctioneer's speaking.
You're paying $1,200 for a studio the size of a walk-in closet and you think it?s a "steal."
You've been to New Jersey twice and got hopelessly lost both times.
You pay more each month to park your car than most people in the U.S. pay in rent.
You haven't seen more than twelve stars in the night sky since you went away to camp as a kid.
You go to dinner at 9 and head out to the clubs when most Americans are heading to bed.
Your closet is filled with black clothes.
You haven't heard the sound of true absolute silence since the 80s, and when you did, it terrified you.
You pay $5 without blinking for a beer that cost the bar 28 cents.
You take fashion seriously.
Being truly alone makes you nervous.
You have 27 different menus next to your telephone.
Going to Brooklyn is considered a "road trip."
America west of the Hudson is still theoretical to you.
You've gotten jaywalking down to an art form.
You take a taxi to get to your health club to exercise.
Your idea of personal space is no one actually standing on your toes.
$50 worth of groceries fit in one paper bag.
You have a minimum of five "worst cab ride ever" stories.
You don't notice sirens anymore.
You live in a building with a larger population than most American towns.
Your doorman is Russian, your grocer is Korean your deli man is Israeli, your building super is Italian, your laundry guy is Chinese, your favorite bartender is Irish, your favorite diner owner is Greek, the watchseller on your corner is Senegalese, your last cabbie was Pakistani, your newsstand guy is Indian and your favorite falafel guy is Egyptian.
You're suspicious of strangers who are actually nice to you.
You secretly envy cabbies for their driving skills.
You think $7.00 to cross a bridge is a fair price.
Your door has more than three locks.
Your favorite movie has DeNiro in it.
You consider eye contact an act of overt aggression.
You run when you see a flashing "Do Not Walk" sign at the intersection.
You're 35 years old and don't have a driver's license.
You ride in a subway car with no air conditioning just because there are seats available.
You're willing to take in strange people as roommates simply to help pay the rent.
There is no North and South. It's uptown or downtown.
When you're away from home, you miss "real" pizza and "real" bagels.
You know the differences between all the different Ray's Pizzas.
You're not in the least bit interested in going to Times Square on New Year's Eve.
Your internal clock is permanently set to know when Alternate Side of the Street parking regulations are in effect.
You know what a bodega is.
You know how to fold the New York Times in half, vertically, so that you can read it on the subway or bus without knocking off other passenger's hats.
Someone bumps into you, and you check for your wallet.....
You cringe at hearing people pronounce Houston St. like the city in Texas
Film crews on your block annoy you, not excite you.

This Week's Adopt a Pet

This little guy is Arnold and he's a
Domestic Short Hair
Size: Medium

Age: Adult

Gender: MaleID: A020527
Notes: Arnold is an adorable four year old cat with a fantastic personality. Arnold is very sweet and loves to rub against his human friends. He has a very inquisitive personality and loves strolling about the cat room, rubbing against everybody and anyone. Petting and head scratches are of course most welcome as well. Arnold cannot wait to get a home of his own where he can roam to his heart’s content and get lots of loving attention. Note: Arnold has tested positive for FIV on one test and tested negative on another. The results are therefore inconclusive at this time, but he should be considered FIV+ just to be safe until the tests are administered. This means he needs to be the only cat in his household. Many cats who are FIV+ lead full, healthy asymptomatic lives. Potential adopters can learn more about Arnold’s condition from ASPCA staff. Come and meet this wonderful boy today – he’s been waiting quite a while for his forever home and really just hopes you’ll come by soon!

Cold

Okay, I've had enough of this crappy cold weather. I shouldn't have to sit in my own apartment under layers of clothes and blankets just to stay warm.
On a positive side, it looks like Scott's done working his ass off....for a while anyway.
