Gulp

Well, I'm again taking some steps in getting an advanced degree. This time for forensic psychology even though I only have a couple of things left to complete my Masters in Social Work. I've decided that my interest is not in social work and I want to get back to psychology. What do I want to do with a degree in forensic psychology? I'm not 100% sure. I've thought about doing profiling. I've though about trying to get into the FBI. I've thought about working with adolescents who are considered juvenile delinquients. So who knows what I'll really be doing when I grow up.
That those steps that you might be wondering about-I looked at the admission information for John Jay College-one of the best known schools for forensic psychology and GRE information. I just ordered some GRE prep books from Amazon this morning. So a big gulp for me as I try to figure out what I want!

More changes

As you can see, I made some more changes to the blog, added some pictures-one I'm not sure how it will go over but hey, it's my blog. It still doesn't look like how I want it to look but it's getting there.

Slight schedule change

Finally, I get a week where I get to go between offices the way I want...leaving Brooklyn all week with the exception of the days where I'm in Manhattan all day. For today, this allows me to join Natalie for yoga after work tonight. Need to stretch out those muscles!

Slowly making progress

My little Eeyore cross-stitch that I'm making for myself is slowly starting to actually look like Eeyore. Most of the body is done along with his nose and part of his legs. I messed up on his bow but it's not really that noticeable. I would post a picture but that would require me to have the knowledge of how to upload pictures on the laptop. One of these days, I'll learn.

Weight Loss Update

I'm down another 1.8 for a total of 19.8 pounds! Only about 13 more to go until I reach my goal! Go me!

Weekend

Finally, Scott has a day off. He had to work yesterday but we did get to spend some time last night watching Saw III. I watched TV and worked on a latch hook for my brother while Scott was working.
Today it's another trip to Weight Watchers and I'm going to do a little shopping thanks to a gift card from my parents.

A good cause

Please sign the petition to stop whaling.

Made the switch

Since I joined in a Craft Charity blog, I've now converted all of my blogs to the new blogger. Some new stuff is obvious and there will be other things that I'll be wanting to do and not 100% sure how to do like put blinkies and other pictures in my sidebar-I'm sure that it will all come in time.

Bitter Cold

Well, today's going to be the coldest day since who knows when. I'm not looking forward to leaving the apartment but got to go and pay the bills.

Feeling of Satisfaction

For some reason, I get such a sense of satisfaction when I mail out books. I just finished packaging several books to be mailed out tomorrow. I still have another bookbox that I need to repackage.
Unfortunately, most of these books were ones that I recently judged and not any of the ones in the back room, and now up for offer. I still have another box full of books to judge-maybe I'll do some tonight as Scott's having yet another late work night.

Update

Well, I think my stomach has decided to hold itself in one piece.
Scott has been working his ass off and probably not getting enough credit, if any. Needless to say, he's very stressed and very tired. Not a great quality time for the two of us but at least, my mind is set for that so I should be okay. Hopefully he will be too.
Royal family continues to thrive even though they want more food than they need and trying to get my attention at almost every turn.
Tomorrow's my turn to produce our lunch club lunch. I'm making a WW friendly salad along with bread-I'm sure that they should enjoy it.

Being sick sucks

Don't know if it was something I ate or the stomach virus that's been going around but last night I was up sick and not just the uncomfortable type-the throwing up your insides kinda sick.
Unfortunately I had to run into work and do a couple of things but I'm home now. As soon as Scott left for work, I went back to bed and slept for about 4 hours. My stomach still feels icky but thankfully Scott got me some gingerale last night (what a great guy he is) so it's off to the saltines and gingerale diet for today.

Craft Rotation

I think that I have some sort of rotation scheduled for my craft projects that I have going. Starting with:
10 rows of the huge latch hook Southwestern scene for my brother
1 string (thread) of my aunt's hot air balloon needlepoint scene
1 length of thread of my Eeyore cross-stitch project for myself
1 or 2 lengths of thread for a cross-stitch project for a lurker
1 or 2 lengths of thread for another cross-stitch project for a family member
1 or 2 lengths of thread of a cross-stitch bookmark for an exchange.
I think that's enough for now-God knows I could start a few other projects.

The Streak Continues

For some reason, the teams that I enjoy watching seem to lose whenever I go and see them play. This is regardless of which sport it is. The only luck I've had is seeing Andre Agassi but now that he's retired....If you didn't guess, Syracuse lost yesterday to St. John's-the game that Scott and I went to. Syracuse could not sink a basket to save their lives. Very frustrating to watch.

Another weekend

Scott's off to play games and I'm feeling lazy. I haven't even gotten dressed yet. I did receive 2 bookboxes and have already gone through them to pick out the books I want. Now I just have to wait for the next person on the list to email me their address to mail them off.
I'm planning on starting my brother's birthday present. I also have some other craft projects I want to get started-I can't list them as I'm being watched by one of the recipients.
Tomorrow is Weight Watchers and the Syracuse vs St. John's basketball game. Last year, we had gotten a nasty blizzard right before the game so Scott and I didn't go but the weather is getting an all clear sign for tomorrow's game. I'm looking forward to going as now I only get to watch Syracuse in person when they play St. John's.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

What a pisser!

I just called the vet to get the results from Zeit's blood work and they came out normal. So what exactly happened to the Royal Queen? Did she just get pissed off that I had come home and then left again? Did she just have something caught in her system and then it cleared? We will never know but she is fine. The little pisser-hate when they do stuff like this!!!!

This Week's Adopt a Pet

With the stress of Zeit yesterday, I didn't get a chance to post this week's pet so here it is.
This handsome guy is Flounder. He's a Domestic Short Hair

Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
ID: A018892

Notes: Founder is quite the devilishly good looking young man. This three year old cat with the adorable black nose is quite a character. Flounder loves attention from people and enjoys being pet and scratched. Since he is a cat, sometimes he does not want to be bothered and just wants his alone time, but he will soon be in the mood for more attention and will come asking for it. What Flounder really loves is play time. Dangle a cat dancer for him and you will be amazed at how high this large guy can jump. And he can keep doing it for hours! Flounder is a charming guy who has been waiting quite a while for his forever home. Won’t you be the on to give it to him? NOTE: Flounder has a scar from a corneal ulcer on one of his eyes which does not cause him any discomfort at this time.

This pet is up to date with routine shots.
This pet has been altered.
Flounder's available at the ASPCA.

Trying Day?

Last night, after Scott and I got home from going out to dinner, we found a streak of cat poop in our living room. We finally figured out that it was Zeit and have decided to take her in to see the vet today. So hopefully, I'll get a reasonable time for an appointment and nothing will be found. My worry is that with Zeit being as old as she is, her time is fast approaching. Luckily, she's still a fiend for human affection.
It doesn't help that with me worrying that my back is full of tension and pain.

Cast of characters

I encountered some interesting people this morning. One was in his late 20's, early 30's light-skinned man was shouting, "Is it okay to drink on the ferry?" He was saying this as he was drinking malt liquor and in front of 5 cops. The cops did nothing.
Then there was a dark-skinned man in his late teens, early 20's, listening to music, quoting, "My baby girl is going to suck my cock," very loudly. Again, in front of the same cops. 2 of them basically told him to be quiet.
Just what I needed as I was trying to read and stay warm.

Winter

Seems to finally be settling in over the Big Apple. Luckily, we do not have any snow yet. Just the cold. Unfortunately for me, I have to take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry. It's great in the summer-nice breeze but in the cold, it's a different story. Oh well, just time to bundle up.

So....

I get home and there's cat vomit and diahrea (sp) all throughout the apartment. I mean every room but the kitchen and our bedroom...so far. Now is any of the cats acting funny? Not really. Zeit doesn't seem to be into the food as usual but she still ate. The rest of them appear fine. Hope that they're all okay and it was only a fluke.

Major Thought for the Day

I hate people. The rude, disgusting, obese, obnoxious, inconsiderate, hateful people.

Does this mean that I'm going to have a bad day?

When Scott came to bed at around 2 am, I heard one of the cats throwing up. I got up, didn't see anything and attempted to go back to bed. Unfortunately for me, Suzie had other ideas and began to headbutt my face. Finally after going back to sleep, the alarm goes off at 4am. I get up and attempt to turn on the living room light and it's blown out. So now, I'm going to workout in the dark. I get dressed and all set to do a new workout dvd and it's for men-gotta love dvd descriptions-no where on the dvd jacket does it state that it's geared towards men. Grrr. So I end up doing another workout and everything appears to be fine...for now-guess we'll see how the rest of the day goes.

Dr. Martin Luther King

Just taking a moment to thank Dr. King for taking some important steps in helping for the equality of Americans. Unfortunately, so much more work needs to be done. But, thank you Dr. King for having your dream and I could only wish that you could have seen your dream come true.

Weekend

Yesterday was kinda laid back-did the groceries, took a nap, played a game, watched some football.
Today, Scott and I are off to CT to his nephew's birthday party and back home again.
Tomorrow will be a relaxing day-probably will be working on some craft stuff and watching some dvds.

Er

Okay, well the last post didn't post how I wanted it and I'm too lazy to try to fix it right now. But did I get a laugh when I saw who I was! Not a bad looking character if I say so!

Action hero

You scored as Captain Jack Sparrow. Roguish,quick-witted, and incredibly lucky, Jack Sparrow is a pirate who sometimes ends up being a hero, against his better judgement. Captain Jack looks out for #1, but he can be counted on (usually) to do the right thing. He has an incredibly persuasive tongue, a mind that borders on genius or insanity, and an incredible talent for getting into trouble and getting out of it. Maybe its brains, maybe its genius, or maybe its just plain luck. Or maybe a mixture of all three.

Craft Finish

While watching Dexter last night, I managed to finally finish the latch hook rug that I was making for my aunt and uncle. They are big Nascar fans. I had found the kit on Ebay a while ago and decided to knock it out for them. So one Christmas present done for 2007!
Once I take a picture and Scott shows me how to download the camera on his laptop, I'll post a picture of it.

Being on the same page

In order for relationships, friendships, etc to succeed, it's important for all parties to be somewhat on the same page and for everyone to fully accept their responsibilities in how the other parties feel. This helps avoid the old, dark sides of people to come through. Lately, I feel that I'm not on the same page as others and I feel like I'm being taken for granted. Now, I understand where the other parties are coming from but what I don't think that they realize is exactly where they're coming from is affecting me and us. I hope that the other parties really understand what they have in me as a friend, etc before it's too late.

This week's Adopt a Pet

Since I have a meeting tomorrow morning when I usually post... This is Shorty and she's a Pit Bull Terrier Mix

Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
ID: A018867

Notes: Shorty is a sweet, two and a half year old girl who has grown up at the shelter but is no worse for the wear. She's loving and rambunctious. She has no handling issues and does not guard her food or chewy. She is very playful and loves playing retrieve. She knows how to sit and is eager to learn more for a taste of her favorite treat. Shorty can be friends with some dogs but not others - she will need to be introduced to playing with other dogs gradually and carefully. She may have some concerns about being left alone. Confinement in a crate with feeding enrichments will help to ease her mind when she is alone. Teenagers and up

This pet is up to date with routine shots.
This pet has been altered.

Now Pit Bulls get a bad reputation but it's all in how they are trained.
Shorty's available at the ASPCA.

It's official

I got a clean bill of health regarding the initial situation which led me to the doctor AND I have a broken toe. Joy oh joy!

Refocus

I really need to do this in regards to my weight loss. Went to Weight Watchers this morning and gained 2.4 pounds. I need to add more exercise to my daily routine and really watch what I'm eating. Not drink as much soda as I do and eat more fruits and veggies. Of course, now that I think that I ended up breaking 2 of my toes (I'm getting this checked out tomorrow), the exercise is going to be kinda limited.

Broken toe or badly sprained?

Well, I practiced being a klutz last night and stubbed my toe really badly on our wooden laundry basket. I thought that it might be broken but as I looked at it this morning, it doesn't look as bad as it did last night. It feels weird but I can move the toe and put some weight on my foot. Me = dumb ass last night!

This Week's Adopt a Pet

I didn't have a chance yesterday to post this week's pet so here it is today.
This is Bubbles and he's a Domestic Short Hair-black and white Mix

Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
ID: A022480

Notes: Bubbles is an adorable six year old cat. Just have a look at that face! Bubbles is a very friendly and social guy who loves meeting new people. Open his cage door and he will pop right out for a stroll around the room. He loves rubbing against people and being pet and stroked. This inquisitive guy also enjoys checking out the other felines in the room and likes to sniff people’s faces to get a better feel for who they are. He is just as cute and friendly as can be! MEDICAL NOTE: Bubbles came to us with a slight heart murmur. He was evaluated with an echocardiogram by our cardiologist in November. At that time he was diagnosed with trivial mitral valve insufficiency. Although monitoring the condition is advisable, it is unlikely to cause a health problem. Bubbles is also on a special diet for crystals in his urine. Although he has recovered from this condition, he should stay on this special diet for the future. This food can easily be bought at veterinarians’ offices and specialty pet food stores. Not much of an inconvenience for such a wonderful companion.
I have a cat who takes specialized food and it isn't hard to get it and make sure that they eat it.
Bubbles is available at the ASPCA.

Just have to laugh

How stupid do people take me for????? Give me a break already!

No Respect

That's all I can say about Nick Saban leaving his NFL coaching position at Miami and heading to Alabama. "Oh, I'm not going to go. I'm not going to leave. I made a commitment to Miami" Bullshit. So now my team has to find another coach...hopefully a better one. There's rumors that some of the players are thinking about retirement. The only good thing that I can say is that with Saban gone there is a much better chance that Ricky Williams will never play in the NFL again...at least for Miami. At least now everyone in the NFL and college arena realize that Saban has no loyalty to any team and is willing to go whereever the money leads him...and he isn't even that good.

Tomorrow

It's back to the normal grind...back to work. It shouldn't be too bad...of course, I say that now before I get there.
So since I took today off figuring that I was going to be heading back to NY after spending New Year's in CT (which didn't happen), just used it to unpack a couple of boxes of books and work on some craft stuff. Started a cross-stitch for myself and quickly put it down. Just wasn't in the mood for it. Managed to watch some TV off of bit torrent and a Hitchcock movie.

It's the New Year

Time for reflection for those of you who believe in doing that sort of thing. Time for resolutions again for those of you who believe in doing it.
Since I do both.....
2006 brought me my divorce.....finally, continued happiness with Scott, a new job position, better health, continued cuteness of the Royal Family, new friends, connections with my extended family for Scott, less drama (always a plus), some new blog friends, lots of books read, lots of crafts done, death of my last bunnies, deaths of some close animal friends.
What I hope for 2007-ongoing plans with Scott, to be at peace with my failed marriage, a visit from the crackhead, possible moving plans, continued better health, continued weight loss, another full year with the Royal Family, continued less drama, reconnectness with my brother, more books read, more crafts done.
I'm trying not to make any true resolutions other than the continued weight loss and reading and crafting. No set date for the weight loss goal. Not set number for the amount of books read or crafts completed...at least not yet.
