Rotation?

I started another project-the cross-stitching that I'm making for an exchange. So no pictures. it's a first for me on several different levels. I'm using waste canvas for the first time. So far so good.

Finally (lots of pictures)

Here are some of the pictures that I took around the NY Botanical Gardens when I was on vacation.

It's not much

But it's a start on my latest project. The color isn't great-maybe I'll try to scan it instead of taking pictures. Guess then Scott will have to show me how to use his scanner! Anyone want to take any guesses on what it is or who it is for?

A long day

I was out of my office all day and with the commute back and forth-it just made the day that much longer. However I did make it to Michael's and got most of what I needed for projects that I have coming up. Also found out that my brother's gift card for Michael's was for $50 so a big thanks to my brother. Now I'm off to watch a movie (you can always see what I've been watching and my opinions on my movie blog-link is in the sidebar) and work on something crafty-not sure what yet.

Kitting

Oh will the kitting ever end? I've been going through some future projects (a couple of squares for Love Quilts, gifts for my father, exchange gift) and getting them set up. Luckily, I'll get to spend some of my day tomorrow at Michael's getting some DMC that I'm missing for these projects and spend gift cards.

RIP Angel

You were such a cutie. I only wish that I got to spend more time with you, your purring, your drinking from the faucet. I know that you gave a lot of happiness to your family and friends for your short time in this life. Rest in peace with your siblings who were not as lucky as you.

Another One for Cathy

Ugh

It's back to work. Should be interesting as we're preparing for a big day. I'm just glad that I don't have to witness all the craziness first-hand this time.

12 out of 25

Finally........my hand is aching but I finished the gift that I had been making. Once it's given, I'll post a picture. It took me a little longer to do than I thought it would but it's done. Tired happy dance for me.

OMG

Memorial Day

Just want to thank you to everyone, past and present, who have fought for the United States (whether right or wrong).

Major Stitching

is finished on the gift that I've been working on. I just have to do some bordering and I should be done. I'll probably get it done tomorrow. Happy dance in the near future!

A Long Weekend

Hope that everyone who has off on Monday has a great 3-day weekend. Scott and I had date night last night-went to see Shrek. I'm about to head out to do some walking and then later on today, Scott and I are going to a street fair and to the Strand (used book store). The rest of the weekend I'm not sure what's planned. All I know is that I really need to finish that gift!

This Week's Adopt a Pet (locally)

This guy is Tyson and he's a Chow Chow Mix

Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Gender: Male
ID: A023587

Notes: Tyson, a one year old, Chow Chow mix, was rescued by our Humane Law Enforcement Officers. He had been beaten and, as a result, suffered severe injuries to his left hind leg. Every effort was made to repair the damage done to Tyson's leg. He had orthopedic surgery in January and, again, in February, to try to repair the damage. Unfortunately, despite the heroic efforts of the ASPCA's entire medical team, Tyson failed to recover from his injuries to a degree that would allow him to be his very active, puppy, self. As a result, a decision was made to amputate the damaged leg in order to restore Tyson's quality of life. The results have been remarkable! Tyson is not only no longer in unbearable pain, he stands and walks as though he never had a fourth leg! His spirit is indomitable and he deserves the best possible new home where his continuing faith in the human race will be rewarded with the love, attention and care he so richly deserves! Households with teens and older.

This is Eclipse and she's a Pointer Mix

Size: Medium
Age: Young
Gender: Female
ID: Eclipse

Notes: Hi! My name is Eclipse and if you're looking for an all around sweet dog with tons of love to give, that's me! I'm a 3 year old Pointer mix who absolutely loves to play as well as to give and recieve attention. I need an open and kind hearted forever home willing to give me the special care I need. I was born with a smaller ear drum and my ear bothers me sometimes. I never mess in my cage so I seem to be housebroken. I get along excellent with people and children and I like some other dogs as well. I have lots of love, life, and joy to give to you and your family. "WOOF!" Sincerely, Eclipse

More progress

I've been making more progress on the gift that I'm making. I'm sick of using the same color but I'm almost done with the cross-stitching with that color-then it's off the cross-stitching a couple more smaller parts and then some satin stitches. I can probably finish it this weekend unless Scott and I end up doing something. I'll definitely post a picture of this once the person receives it. Reminds me...I still gotta post the pictures from my little vacation here in NYC.

And the stitching

goes on and on and on. I did a little work on the gift before I start dinner and wait for Scott to get home. Depending on how dinner goes and how awake I am, I might go back and do some more before I go to bed tonight.

Dreams

Anyone out there want to help me analyze my dreams? This morning I had the 2nd dream of where I'm pregnant. This one was a lot more of a nightmarish kind-one of Scott's friends (combination of a lot of them actually) kept harassing me and Scott didn't do anything about it. Any ideas?

AIDS Walk

Dawn asked me how the walk went. Well, I was in pain. My neck hurt and my leg ended up hurting so I just handed in my forms and donations and left. There was about 50,000 people there and it's the largest AIDS fundraiser in the world so I'm proud that I'm part of that. It was also showering when I got there so the idea of possibly walking in the rain wasn't thrilling to me.

Stitching

I did some more satin and cross-stitching on the gift for someone. I'm now about 55% done with it. I'm still thinking that I can get it done in time.
I ordered the fabrics for the quilt squares for donation so I'm hoping that they'll be in soon along with the floss for my Dad's project.

A surprise

When I stepped off the train at Christopher St in Greenwich Village for my writing class-there was a street fair-for those of you who don't know what they are: lots of food, and little tents set up by people selling all types of stuff-jewelry, clothes, candles, house decorations, etc. I explored a little bit before class. I ended up buying some votive candles. After class, I went back and got some rocking grilled corn. It was soooooooooooo good. I almost got another ear it was so good!

Another weekend is upon us

And it's a busy one-I have my writing class today and tomorrow is the AIDS Walk (you can still sponsor me if you would like-it's a flat donation (not per mile) and can be done privately). Wish that the weather would be a little better but I can't complain.
I noticed this morning that I haven't been watching as many movies as I used to-a big part of that is that Scott and I have been downloading TV shows so I've been watching those instead of movies. I'll have to watch something when I get home and Scott's still off playing games.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Friday, May 18, 2007

Last night

I worked a little more on the gift that I've been working on-Did satin stitches instead of the cross-stitching. Maybe I'll get this done on time.

Probably getting in over my head

I just signed up for 2 blocks for 2 different quilts at lovequilts.com-I found it on the 25 things for charity blog that I belong to. These quilts have cross-stitched blocks and they are made for kids with diseases. I figured that since it's for charity-anything that I end up buying shouldn't count against my 25 projects-the only things that I would have to buy is the fabric and threads (if I don't already have them).

This Week's Adopt a Pet (local)

This little gal is Gina and she's a Dilute Calico,Domestic Short Hair Mix

Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
ID: A022962

Notes: Gina, a beautiful, seven and a half year old girl, loves to be the star of her own space. We know, therefore, that she's looking for a household where she will be the one and only cat in residence! Because of a previous urinary tract infection, which is now completely cured, we recommend the special diet we're currently feeding her. This will prevent the problem from reoccuring and Gina is certainly deserving of anything special!

Gina's available at the ASPCA.

This Week's Adopt a Pet (Nationally)

I decided to do something new with my weekly pets-I'm going to a do a national one (meaning one not in NYC) and a local one (one in NYC). Hope you like my choices.

A cutie

Back to the grind

Made it to work...early-6:30am this morning. Didn't find too much overwhelming stuff for me to handle-some new kids-some old kids. My mind wasn't always here in Brooklyn but in CT and Scott did let me know that he's on his way home.

More stitching

I've been working on yet another gift-something I started a month or so ago and with the other gifts done, I can now concentrate on this one. I'm probably about 40% done. There's some different stitches that I don't normally do (satin stitches) so I'm enjoying the differences.
I also started kitting up a present for my father-he has a big garden and is now a master gardener so I'm going to cross-stitch some planters for him with some of the veggies that he grows every year. I had to order the DMC threads that I was missing so once those come, I'll probably start on those. Not sure if they will be done in time for Father's Day or his birthday which is in July.
In other news, Scott and I leave tomorrow for his grandmother's wake and then I come back home so I can go back to work on Tuesday while Scott stays for the funeral. I wonder how much work I'll actually get done on Tuesday.

Happy Mother's Day

Just wanted to say to all the moms out there-Happy Mother's Day! Hope that you all have a great day!

Another weekend

Another writing class. I read some good stories by my classmates this past week. We discussed suspenseful plots a little bit and how to make them stronger.
What I cannot understand is why when people are shelling out hundreds of dollars for a class, why can't they make it to class on time?

My birthday

Again thank you to everyone who sent me birthday wishes.
Scott and I went to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and the Brooklyn Museum. I had never been to the Brooklyn Museum and it seemed smaller than I thought it would be.
Then we went out to an awesome dinner-we went to Aja Restaurant on the East Side-great Asian food.
So thank you Scott for taking the day off and for spending it with me. Thanks for Tori and the Ecosphere and dinner.

Thank you also for the kind words for Scott's loss. Services will be Monday and Tuesday and unfortunately I cannot go on Tuesday because of work.

Another cutie

RIP

Scott and I found out this morning that his maternal grandmother passed away. He had gotten a phone call from his stepfather last night stating that she went to the hospital last night. This morning, his mother called and told us the news. It was sudden and I'm hoping that she was not in too much pain. She was a sweet woman who loved her Yankees baseball. I'm hoping that Scott's family comes to peace about this sudden death sooner than later and if they need anything, they know that I'm here for them.

This Week's Adopt a Pet

This adorable guy is Samson and he's a Labrador Retriever

11 out of 25

Just started and finished a friendship bracelet for charity-once I unloaded all the pictures from yesterday, I'll post the bracelet that I just made-under an hour-I'm impressed!
Got me thinking that maybe I should set up a blog to sell my work (mostly bracelets). Not sure how it would work but I'm willing to take some ideas.

A day on the bus

I decided to do something that I had been wanting to do since I moved to NYC-take a double decker bus tour of Manhattan. So...here I am on vacation...and I did what I wanted to do! First I took the Uptown Tour-which was up the West Side from Times Square, through Harlem and back down Museum Mile on the East Side. The tour guide was a little hyper but wasn't too bad-tried a little too hard with some of his jokes. The 2nd tour was the Downtown Loop-Times Square through the Villages by Ground Zero, by South St. Seaport and back up to Times Square. The guide was a little dry but seemed to really know her stuff.
Overall, I really enjoyed it and am debating on doing another one.

10 out of 25

Wahoo! I finished the gift that I was cross-stitching-all the backstitching is done. Once the recipient has received it, I'll show it off. Now, I need to figure out what project to work on next-I have a few gifts that need to be started and finished so that's what I'll probably work on next.

A day full of plants and animals

Today I spent at the NY Botanical Gardens and the Bronx Zoo. I decided to go to these places since I hadn't been to them in several years. I spent a long time among the lilacs at the Gardens-pictures will be coming once I figure out which ones I want to show. The Gardens were so much larger than I remembered. It was a beautiful day to walk among the plants. I did buy a nice t-shirt at the nice gift shop.
At the Bronx Zoo, there were several schools which I was hoping to avoid since Wednesdays are the days that it's free to get in. But I enjoyed myself none the less. Probably my favorite was the Red Pandas-normally when I've seen them, they're sleeping but these two were active today. Very cute. Cute enough for me to get Pandie, the Red Panda at the zoo's gift shop.
Overall, a really beautiful day to be outside and I have the feet pain to prove all the walking I did! :)

Finished cross-stitching

And I've even started the backstitching of the gift. I'm surprised that I've been getting as much done as I have. I should probably be able to finish it tomorrow night while Scott's playing games.

Lots of stitching

I've been managing to get a lot of stitching done on the gift that I started over the weekend. I have about 20% cross-stitching left and then the back stitching. Then happy dance time!

Sunday, May 06, 2007

Stitching

Started a new gift-it's to go with one of the other ones that I've finished. It's cross-stitch and I'm sure the recipient will like it.
Also did some more on the Moonlit Tide (read about 1 row of stitches). Not sure how much I will get done since I'm not always going to be home this week while I'm on vacation. I would like to get the gift done this week but we'll see.

3rd Week of my Writing Class

And I had my story workshopped-which means that everyone gave their opinions-positive comments and then ones the reflected on what they thought should be revised. A lot of people stated that they thought that my story was fun, innovative, adventurous and creative. Most of the stuff that they had to say about revising was stuff that I had already thought of doing so it was a positive day for me.
And I went to Jacques Torres chocolate shop in Manhattan-yummy.

Friday, May 04, 2007

Ah....

Being on vacation....what a nice feeling.

Friday's Feast

Here's this week's Friday Feast:

Appetizer
Name something you would not want to own.
-a giraffe (first thing that came to mind)

Soup
Describe your hair (texture, color, length, etc.).
-just past my shoulders-nice and full, it's a medium brown with some gray and red.

Salad
Finish this sentence: I’ll never forget ___________.
-the lessons I learned from my marriage

Main Course
Which famous person would you like to be for one day? Why?
-Denzel Washington's wife...need I really explain why?

Dessert
Write one sentence about yourself that includes one thing that is true and another thing that is not.
-I love going to nude beaches while I'm in Hawaii.

Thursday, May 03, 2007

One more day

And then I'm on vacation! I would love to say that I'm actually going away but I'm not. I figure that I'll play tourist and do some things in NY that I've either never done or it's been years since I've done them. I'm hoping that the weather will cooperate with my plans.

New Project

I decided to take a break from all of my gifts that I need to do and organized a new project-Dimensions Moonlit Tide-lots of yarn-37 colors in total. I did start it-about 15 stitches. It's needlepoint so I think that I'll get through it fairly quickly-depends on how much effort I put towards it.

Another trip to the vet

This time was only to pick up medication for Zeit. She's been having diarrhea but seems to be in good spirits-makes a point of sitting with me and Scott when before she wouldn't when she was sick. We'll see if this does any good for her.

This Week's Adopt a Pet

This is Sweety and she's a Dilute Calico

Size: Medium
Age: Adult
Gender: Female
ID: A023586

Notes: Sweety, a year old princess, asks that she be in a household where she's the only feline. She has lots of love to give, despite having come to us with deep wounds on her back. The wounds have healed and she's in fine fettle. No wonder, after all that she's been through, she requires the full attention of her new family!

Mad House

After work, I decided to check out the Plant Sale at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Today was just for BBG members. The gates were supposed to open at 4:30 but the one gate that I went to wasn't open until about 4:40pm. One woman was so angry about being 10 minutes late. Once I actually got to the area where the sale was, it was just a mad house-People brought wagons and carts to carry around their plants. Almost no one was conscientious of others around them or their wagons. Just madness. I did get some plants-a cactus, African violet, and a low light house plant that just looked cool (dark purple and green). Now I'm home waiting to hear to see how late Scott will be.
